To Your Health!

Question:

Dear Wine Master,

I am enjoying this site! We have about 15 bottles of wine given as gifts over the last 6 years or so! My wife says, ”Get rid of them—they are a risk!” and I have not because I will not waste them if they are drinkable!

Please command the outcome! Thanks so much!

Answer:
Dear Wine Lover,

It is highly unlikely that any of the wines you have collected will be a health risk! At the end of the day the enjoyment of wine is a very subjective choice. Some wines were made to mature into their best, and others should be at their most delicious when young. But this decision is down to you.

I envy you the adventure ahead as you discover which of your treasures will give you most pleasure. My tip to you is to open your chosen bottle in the right conditions, pour a little into a glass, and have a big old sniff! If the wine smells good then it will taste wonderful, but if the smell is horrible then the wine is probably past its best or has a taint of some kind.

It would probably be worth a visit to Tainted Wine to pick up some guidance on what to look for in unhealthy wines.

My bet is that most of your bottles will be very drinkable. You can test your wife’s resolve by seeing if she insists on missing out on some delicious older wines!!

I hope you enjoy.
