To Do List
Because writing it down may help get it done…
1. Choose a Rhone Blanc for Tuesday’s winetasting group. Too bad it has to be from France cause I’ve tasted some great CA versions lately. Any suggestions?
2. Pick a “bottle” for Wine Blogging Wednesday #31 over at Box Wines. The theme? Box wines and other non-traditional packaging. I’ve already got one in mind that comes in a can but would like an actual box as well, to remind me of back in the day.
3. Speaking of white Rhone-style blends…Enter this Twisted contest. After all, it was the idea of writing back labels that brought me out here. But to write one for a funky operation that produces great wines made by a very nice and seemingly-a-little-crazy guy? No, readers and drinkers, not Bonny Doon. Randall Grahm is crazy but I have no idea if he’s nice. Think less mass, more TLC. This is Twisted Oak Winery, and the winning entry for the %@#$! (yes, that’s its name) results in a case of wine and, as El Jefe puts it, immortality.
I better get cracking
Rhone wines, box wines, back labels, things to do

Box Wines? (rolls eyes) Box wines are to viticulture as Velveeta is to cheese. Like what Tang is to orange juice. Perhaps even what Penthouse is to “meaningful relationships.” Call me a snob, I prefer my wine to be poured lovingly from a bottle, not pissed from a bladder.

wine has been kept in a lot of things over the years including containers made out of animal hides and bladders… i’m not saying that i would drink wine out of an animal’s bladder, but i think we need to open our minds to other storage containers for our wine… here’s an interesting article on wine containers: http://www.winepros.org/consumerism/bottles.htm
but i do have to agree that there is nothing like opening and pouring from a bottle..
and farley, check out the wine cube at target… haven’t had it, but also heard they have wine in little “juice boxes”

The Boy and I went to Beltramos in Menlo Park and the pickings were slim if you don’t want to spend over 60 bucks! K & L is a great place and they may have more of a selection, or go ‘ol Bevmo. I like the one in Sunnyvale better then the Mountain view one, but thats a bit far for you to trek, perhaps. My homeowrk tonight is to buy cheese and dig out the tasting sheets. See ya tomorrow!

To Z and Doug, I do like to keep an open mind. As much as I appreciate a bottle, boxes will keep the wine fresher longer. They just need to put good wine in it to start.
To Sara,
Crap. I was counting on Beltramo’s so I guess I’m heading to K & L soon. My Bevmo here isn’t the best.

1. If you haven’t already scored your Rhone white, the K&L web site is great. You can research what they have, and even where they have it.
2. They should bring back amphorae
3. I have met Randall briefly once, and he seemed pretty nice. I’m unhappy that he got Ralph Steadman first, but I’ll get over it.
