The Grapes Are Here! The Grapes Are Here!

by Farley

Remnants of Syrah grapesWell, readers and drinkers, harvest has officially begun. We received Syrah grapes from the Rominger Vineyard in Yolo County and the England-Shaw Vineyard in Solano County. They are now crushed and nestled in open-top tanks awaiting punch down’s. I tried to get some action shots, but the cellar guys are too quick for me. Although Associate Winemaker John Kane promised (threatened?) to put on his speedo the next time I bring my camera over…

What you see there are stems and what was passed over from the Rominger.

Wow, you know fall is certainly around the corner when it is crush time. I was lucky to be in Napa/Sonoma one time on vacation during harvest time and I did get alot of nice photos. But, they are film:( I just remember it was such a busy exciting time. I was amazed to see so many grapes in one spot! There was so much purple everywhere! Our latest harvest in Key West has been lobster! Not quite as good as the grapes as we know what the end results of the grapes are going to be! Although a good lobster dinner with a great glass of wine…Yum!
