Tasting room etiquette: only the beginning
After yesterday at work, I decided I needed a new category. I’ve been meaning to write a general post on the matter, and I already dedicated one of my instructional wine videos to the subject. The problem is, the people who really need to read/see this stuff–aren’t. They probably wouldn’t bother.
So I’ve decided as these indignations occur, I will do my best to report them, as objectively as possible.
Back to my story: At the very end of the day, after a crazy busy couple of hours, I realized I needed to package up a wine order for a customer who was sharing a bottle on the front patio and probably ready to go by then. I hadn’t had time to breathe, much less pull a couple of mixed cases.
As I was going into the back, another man asked me to pour him the last wine, which I did. Then he asked me to serve his companions, who were seated on a bench. It took me aback. I worked as a cocktail waitress for a few months at one restaurant and hated every minute of it… This is not a bar. And I am not a waitress. Plus, they still had wine in their glasses.
I gave an admittedly brisk explanation due to my hurry (and annoyance). But sometimes at the end of a long day,you just need people to be considerate. But that’s the same for everyone who deals with people.
