Leftovers Done Right
Speaking of making folks jealous, I just added a new category, thanks to the drooling my seafood inspired. With my leftover sushi, I had another fabulous meal. The tuna I soaked in soy sauce and made a breading out of smashed multiseed w/ soy chips from Trader Joe’s, salt & pepper, and finished off with a quick sear. The salmon I marinated in honey and soy sauce and cooked briefly in a skillet. I had also gotten some sea scallops from 99 Ranch, which I seared and topped with a sauce of butter, shallots, and Chardonnay. I had my leftover dinner with leftover 2004 Thomas Fogarty Chardonnay (perfect with the scallops, esp. since it was in the sauce), but there was nothing left over as I hurried to get ready for a friend’s birthday/ lounge lizard party…

Loving the vase of tulips. I have the same one, but it is “sans” tulips. -_-

The tuna and salmon look yummy. I recommend trying a teryaki sauce marinade next time. It’s really easy to make:
TERYAKI SAUCE:
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/2 cup sugar
2 tablespoons mirin, sherry, or white wine
2 teaspoons grated fresh ginger
1 garlic clove, minced
1/2 teaspoon cornstarch
1/8 teaspoon red pepper flakes
2 scallions, sliced thin
Whisk together. Takes 4 minutes to prepare.

Ah, I will have to wait until I get home to see the picture, my work blocks all photos….but it sounds inspired! You should check out CookingChat.blogspot.com and read about Leftover Tuesdays. Last month he started a blog event for getting creative with your leftovers and I think got about a dozen bloggers to participate!
So, um, when can I come over for dinner?

Oh my heavens that looks good. We always get extra rolls for breakfast the next day, but it only works with really good rice, the cheap rice gets nasty in the fridge.

If you ever need help getting rid of your leftovers let me know. My steady diet of ramen noodles and mac and cheese isn’t cutting it lately.
