If You Can’t Snap on the 4th, You Can At Least Sip
Ah, the 4th of July: a BBQer’s ultimate paradise. Burgers, steaks, sausages, hot dogs, shish kebobs, corn, potatoes…. If it’s not moving, throw it on the grill. And while I find two wines to be just heavenly for grilled treats (Zinfandel and a dry rose’) this year I’m going for Sangria. While I plan to make the red version tomorrow, yesterday I got some practice making my first white Sangria. It was a spur-of-the-moment idea, so I just threw in what I had: Ventana white wine, apple juice, strawberry lemonade, and tons of diced peaches and mangoes. It was very refreshing, I only wished I had some sparkling white grape juice or Sprite to give it a little fizz.
And in the meantime, read this inspired and witty piece by Peter Hartlaub about the lack of freedom on the holiday that embodies freedom. It’ll make you want to break the law, and load up on Roman candles, bottle rockets, and the like.

For some reason I always think of citrus fruits when I think of sangria, but the peach/mango combo was nice and mild. What are you putting in the red one?
I love that article about the fireworks - I’m going out and buy some right now!

I made some Red Sangria that seemed to go over well. The Secret ingredient I always add is a can of 7up.
Heres my recipe
2 bottles Beaujoule
1/2 bottle Sauvougn Blanc
1 cup Orange Juice
2 shots Peach Shnapps
1 can 7up
2 Oranges Quartered
1 Lemon 1 Lime
Lots of Strawberrys sliced
2 Kiwis peeled and sliced
Add everything except the 7up the nite before and let sit in the fridge. Add the 7up( cold) just before serving.

BK–Hope you liked it. Might post about it except I have no pictures!
Eric–Hmmm. Never thought to use Peach Scnapps–it sounds like a tasty addition.
