Election day gives pause and cause to drink
I seem to recall trying to order a glass of wine years ago on election day and being told I couldn’t have one until the polls officially closed. Probably the remnants of a law put into use because manipulative politicians would sidestep less educated voters before voting, then load them up with booze. Thereby, influencing the results.
Here I am, today, doing some last minute research before going to polls. And though it’s early in the day, the stress of it all could lead a girl to drink.
Well-known for fun labels, Bonny Doon has its fair share of interesting names. Two come to mind when trying to forge past negative campaigning that seems to get worse each year. One is the Madiran Heart of Darkness, a French red blend, and the Critique of Pure Riesling, which contains almost as much acidity as the tv and radio ads. Why can’t cadidates tell us what they do correctly instead of what their opponents do badly?
The Toad Hollow ‘Cacophony’ Zinfandel mirrors the noise in my head as I try to decide what propositions are really saying. Everywhere you turn, commercials give differing information on why to support them or not. Also appropriate is the Conundrum, a white blend containing varietals such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Muscat Canelli, and others. Once made by Caymus, it now exists alone, and represents the decision to analyze the components each year instead of always throwing in the same things.
I only hope that we can look past special interest groups and negative ads and make some changes. This is no Hill of Content Grenache/Shiraz. Look, instead to the Epiphany Petite Sirah.
And maybe in a couple years, we’ll be pouring the Presidential Tawny Porto in a close association with the Veuve Cliquot ‘La Grande Dame’ Brut…
Whatever your choice–let it be known. Get to the polls then get out the glasses.

Here Here!!! Although, since I am in TX, I skipped the wine last night and went straight to vodka. Guess I wanted my drink to feel as hard as the propaganda. Tonight though, I definitely think a shiraz will be a nice recognization of pleasure.
I voted! I got a sticker to prove it! Here’s hoping Diebold got it right …

Beautifully written, Farley. I think I will have a bottle of Conundrum myself this evening. Come visit soon :).
