12 Reasons to Keep Extra Wine on Hand (One for Each Day of Christmas)

by Farley

Now, I’m sure Martha Stewart would tell you to have plenty of handmade presents wrapped and ready for that unexpected gifter, and Rachael Ray or my hero Paula Deen would advise to have a pantry full of holiday treats. But I’m here to remind you about what’s truly necessary this season. Wine. Lots of it.
what you need under your tree

With the multitudes of stresses lurking around the corner, don’t get caught off-guard. Here are just 12 reasons out of many that you may find yourself in need:

1. You come home after scouring every video store, still unable to find your favorite holiday special, say, Emmet Otter’s Jugband Christmas. After that third glass, you get smart and join Netflix.

2. Your spouse/child/neighbor through very thin walls insists on keeping the radio set to the station that plays Christmas songs all day, every day.

3. Sometimes uninvited guests drop by. Sometimes you need a little something to get through the visit.

4. You’re bound to burn a dinner, forget to buy groceries, neglect to thaw the pork chops. Feel less guilty about that pizza delivery by drinking out of the fancy glasses.

5. You went to three different stores and still couldn’t find that toy/sweater/necklace, and now it’s too late to order online and get it here in time.

6. Traffic

7. That envelope of gift receipts somehow got roasted instead of the chestnuts.

8. That dinner party at your co-worker’s, the one you were trying to get out of but couldn’t.

9. You’re wrapping your very last present and realize there’s no more tape.

10. The cats have knocked over the Christmas tree again or else the dog has peed on it.

11. Don’t you always need a White Elephant gift?

12. Everyone in the neighborhood decorated with so many lights that the power went out, and you’re desperate to try and stay warm and/or sane.

Whatever the reason, this season keep the wine rack stocked.

  1. The Beauty Brains Says:

We discovered your blog while doing research for a post on the skin care benefits of grape extract. We really like the way you educate the wine drinking public (your post on “pallet” was great!) because we’re scientists who do the same kind of thing for cosmetics over at thebeautybrains.com.

Thanks for the wine tips and keep up the great work!

  2. mrscrumley Says:

Ok, how much of that was written from personal experience? I love number 4, I always feel classing drinking wine with pizza.

  3. Farley Says:

Thanks, Beauty Brains. I try and that makes my day.
Mrs. Crumley,I really don’t wait for reasons to drink wine. It just happens and more so around the holidays.

  4. Dawn Says:

Assuaged dinner crunch time guilt tonight with a budget Zin with the chili mac. Wine goes with everything. Especially holidays.
